Licensing that used to take a counter visit. Now it’s a phone tap.
What started as dog-license software for a single municipality became a multi-state licensing-and-permitting platform that lets agencies launch any regulated workflow — forms, documents, payments, and physical tags — in a single day. I led the full SDLC: architecture, roadmap, frontend, client relationships, and the manufacturing partner that produced the QR-coded tags now in the field.
“Most cities still only offer in-person registration for everything from pet licenses to trade permits. Compliance is abysmal. Vendors quote months of custom development to onboard a new agency. The civic result is a system that punishes compliant citizens and rewards neglect.”
How we cracked it.
Configuration over customization
Rebuilt the product around a JSON-driven form-and-workflow engine. Every license, permit, renewal, or inspection becomes data — not code. Onboarding a new municipality collapsed from weeks of bespoke dev into an afternoon of configuration.
A drag-and-drop form builder
Non-engineers on the client side can stand up complex, multi-step workflows with conditional branches, file uploads, payments, and review flows — without touching the codebase or waiting on a sprint.
AI doc scanning, not AI theater
Rabies certificates, driver's licenses, ID scans — uploaded documents are parsed and auto-filled into applications. The AI exists to remove typing, not to chat.
Real-world hardware
Sourced and set up a manufacturing partner for QR-coded pet tags that link back to the platform. When a dog is lost, the tag is the product. Nothing existed for that — I built the supply chain.
